ADNOC Drilling has introduced its latest offshore drilling rig, the AD-300, a fully automated walking island rig that represents a significant step forward in the digital transformation of the energy sector.
Standing approximately 50 metres tall, the AD-300 was delivered nearly three months ahead of schedule and is equipped with advanced automation, artificial intelligence, digital monitoring systems, and hybrid power capabilities. Unlike conventional rigs, it can move between drilling locations without being dismantled, reducing downtime and improving operational efficiency.
According to ADNOC Drilling CEO Abdulla Ateya Al Messabi, the AD-300 demonstrates how automation and AI are reshaping offshore operations by improving safety, enhancing productivity, and enabling smarter decision-making through real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance.
The AD-300 is the first of six next-generation rigs that will be deployed under a $1.54 billion drilling services programme extending through 2027. The investment is expected to strengthen operational performance while supporting ADNOC Drilling's long-term growth strategy.
The company believes that combining advanced technology with large-scale operations will define the future of the energy industry. Through initiatives such as the AD-300 programme, ADNOC Drilling aims to improve operational reliability, reduce manual intervention in high-risk environments, and increase efficiency across its offshore fleet.
As the UAE continues investing in innovation and digital transformation, projects like the AD-300 reinforce the country's commitment to building a more advanced, productive, and technology-driven energy sector.
